Hello! What’s this all about?

What's it all about?

That’s a big angsty question to start our very first blog with… and yet it’s the only one that matters.

In his incredible TED Talk and book, Simon Sinek tells us to “Start with Why?”
as conveying purpose and meaning in what you are doing is ultimately what
will make a difference to the world and your work.

Why?

Because the “why” is how leaders inspire action.

It's how movements start.

It’s how we as individuals make a change and have real impact.

And so in homage to that amazing piece of advice, we are starting our “Fresher Files” with a few of our why’s for what we do, and this blog.

Why do we do what we do?

So we start at the beginning – we are Eagle Solutions Services (but that’s Long to say and way to corporate sounding for my liking, and so for the purposes of getting to know us), you can call us “Team Eagle”.

We are passionate foodies, who want do what we can in the world of food, health and wellbeing. We’re over all the food morality labels, (Healthy, Clean yuk!!) – and we’re taking an altogether different approach to food to help children and their families live their best lives now, and have their best futures tomorrow.

“Purpose is the reason you journey, and passion is the fire that lights the way”

We do what we do (and you are probably asking what that actually is, and we’ll get to the specifics another time) for 3  reasons:

  •      We do what we do, because we can… like everyone, we can’t do everything. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t do anything.

Whatever good you have to give the world should always be given.
Since Team Eagle has such a wealth of knowledge and expertise on a
range of subjects… there’s lots that we CAN do and so we will
do it. Every. Single. Time.

  •       We do what we do, because we should… our work helping schools and families with their food and teachers with their wellbeing is because things are fundamentally not working in so many of the systems that they interact in.
The stats on obesity (two thirds of UK adults being overweight or obese) tells us that we grown-ups didn’t really get the memo on how to look after ourselves effectively, which mean we’re less likely to be able to help our children do the same.

We can change that – not with rules, and rods and sapping the joy and flavour out of meals… but by taking a no-nonsense, common sense approach to helping children, young people and adults have a great relationship with food.

In the main, no one wants healthy food (if they’re perfectly honest, and not using their body for a living… like a model or a body builder) – those of us who are grown up and do, have probably taken some time to learn that we love what it does in our bodies and how it makes us feel.

We want food that looks good. Tastes good. Does good (for the eater and the planet!)

That’s not asking too much, and by following those principles we are able to inspire great eating relationships and habits in schools and families.

And so we should!

  •       We do what we do, because we must…food is way too important for it NOT to be understood, respected and to form a part of any plan to improve the life (and life chances) of a young person.
And yet we have an education system that has all but told schools and school leaders in so many ways that there are other things more important.

“Core Subjects”, “Teaching and Learning”, “Development Priorities”

-          And yet – there is nothing more core to life than food
-          You cannot teach a hungry child, and they don’t learn much when their most basic needs are not met.
-         And there are no more important priorities that ensuring that they live long healthy and fulfilled lives, which they will not without getting to grips with food.

We’re a positive bunch in the main, and yet – this is definitely NOT right.

So we do what we do to put it right and give children a fighting chance for that better future.

With support, advice, challenge, involvement, innovation, inclusion, passion, commitment, and with everything we have.

So Why the Blog?

We have this blog as our space to say what we really think….

Thus far, we’ve pretty much kept our head down, doing
the work and getting on with making a difference. But we now
also want to make sure we use our voice to make as much impact as we can.

So we raise our voice and use it for good.

We will comment. We will campaign. We will challenge. We will question. We will analyse. We will explain. We will plan. We will make change. We will be the change.

We will lift the veil on the mysteries and tell you our thoughts on what’s really going on behind the headlines.

Of course we’ll talk food – but not just that:

We’ll be talking anything that will affects food, young people, health and wellbeing. We will cover our corner to make sure we help as much as we can.

If you are a teacher, educator, school leader, parent, anyone interested in food, health, wellbeing and young people’s future’s – you’ve found a slice of home here at the Fresher Files!

So our very first call to action – Say Hello in the comments below – tell us your passion for any of our topics. What you look forward to seeing here. And tell others too.
We’ll be starting a truly honest dialogue about the state of food, health and wellbeing in this country and beyond.

P.S: The “Why’s” are incredibly important – to find out more, check out Simon Sinek’s amazing TED Talk here!
